When Wine Causes a Skin Rash - Sulfite Allergies

Many coarse foods we eat daily can cause a whole host of problems for any someone sensitive to sulfites. This is because sulfites are used anywhere in the manufacturing commerce as a food preservative. Its function is to stop the growth of bacteria, prevent oxidation (browning) and to extend the shelf life of the ended product.

The grape, the major ingredient in all wines, does have a percentage of sulfites in them plainly occurring right from nature. But after growing and harvesting (many farmers do not use any sulfites while this stage), the bottling and containers process requires the use of some type of food preservative for extended shelf life. This preservative is needed to prevent the ruination of an entire crop of bottled wines. To date, there is no "all-natural or organic" preservative available for use in the wine industry.

Ice Indulgence

Common to the wine assembler or the wine dealer, a bottle of wine with an extended shelf life will fetch a best price than the same vintage of just a few years of age. Without sulfites, this extended shelf life is impossible. A bottled wine without sulfites can not last more than a few years.

Common Symptoms Of A Wine-Sulfite Allergy

Several of the reported symptoms of a sulfite reaction from various wines include:

  • headaches or migraines
  • gastro-intestinal symptoms
  • skin rash
  • respiratory symptoms (especially in asthmatics)

A sulfite allergy is especially hard on asthmatics because they already have a distressed respiratory system, hence major breathing problems. The supplementary swelling of the mucous membranes can effect in troublesome wheezing or a severe asthma attack.

What Else Includes Sulfites

If you are sensitive to sulfites, there is a whole host of other items you may need to avoid other than wines. Some people undoubtedly can withstand a small number of exposure but since it is a food preservative, it is found in many distinct places:

  • grape juice or anywhere you see raisins, these need to be monitored slowly
  • sulfites occur plainly in tomatoes so ketchup, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, tomato paste or vegetable soup etc.
  • deli meats, sausages, hot dogs etc.
  • frozen pizza, icy bread doughs, etc.
  • almost all dried fruits were preserved with sulfites to prevent browning

Treatments Or A Sulfite Watch

Currently there is no treatment for a sulfite allergy other than avoidance. Sensitivities are so inconsistent in the middle of many patients, some individuals have found they can tolerate small amounts. But with over-indulgence or just too many food products reliant on sulfites that day, their allergy symptoms will flare up. Over the counter antihistamines (check these labels considered though or ask the pharmacist - some of these also use sulfites) will help to reduce the skin rashes and minor swellings.

Asthmatics though must rely on their medications and inhalers for help. Re-opening their airway to supplementary help their labored breathing is the #1 priority in case of accidental ingestion.

Sulfite allergies therefore do not lead to the approved anaphylactic reaction as is coarse in most allergies, but it does often lead to a fatality. Many asthmatics, without immediate curative intervention, will have an asthma strike and not be able to prevent suffocation.

Causes of Panic Attacks whole 3: Having Your Cake and Freaking Out Too

I don't know about you, but I love sweets. They taste so good it's hard to fantasize that they could be one of the major causes of panic attacks. My parents live in Orlando and there's a place in uptown Winter Park called The Briar Patch that makes homemade cakes and ice cream. Mind you, the slices of cake are the size of your head. My two all-time beloved sugary indulgences? Bananas foster, set on fire right next to the table and dribbled down to my waiting ice cream. And of course, homemade red velvet cake.

Can I tell you that after the last time I ate an entire piece of red velvet cake from there I'd start to freak out if I couldn't get my head comfortable on a pillow. Seriously. Why? Because for those who suffer from panic attacks, refined sugar is one of the three worst things you can put into your body.

Ice Indulgence

Now it's clear that the causes of panic attacks are numerous; stresses in your life, whole of rest, bodily condition, diet, and reasoning health all contribute to the likelihood that you'll suffer from panic attacks. As far as diet is concerned, there are three things you must avoid to give yourself the greatest opportunity of success to avoid ever having a panic assault again. The "terrible three" are caffeine, alcohol, and sugar. In other articles I go into depth about caffeine and alcohol. For the moment, suffice it to say that they are all bad... Very bad.

So why is sugar so bad? Sure sugar tastes great but it's loaded with negligible ingredients and has empty calories. Sadly, sugar also raises blood lactate levels which lends itself directly to instability. fantasize this: you eat a bunch of sugar and you come to be hyperactive. Now you are emotionally unbalanced. And where you may have ordinarily had a shot of talking yourself down off the ledge when you started to get that anxious feeling, now you're roughly a slave to your blood sugar level and will more likely fall off the ledge.

Remember, regardless of diet, drugs and all these other things that are related with panic attacks, finally the root cause is ordinarily the same. It's a thought. And once that thought goes haywire, the health of your body is going to help resolve either it's going to go into that fight or flight mode that we all know as a panic attack. The beauty of minimizing sugar in your diet is that your benefits are twofold. The first advantage being that you are physically less susceptible to panic attacks. The second one, which I personally find to be the most important, is that you Know that you have taken a step to stop panic attacks in your life. You Know that because you do not have excessive refined sugars in your system, there is just No Way that you are going to lose control. You are in control; and just knowing that one thing can make all the difference.

So am I suggesting giving up all refined sugars? If possible, why not? There are fullness of sugar free alternatives out there now. Though some come with their own warning labels, I have yet to see whatever bad about Stevia. If you can't give up refined sugars, just learn to seriously limit them. Try to eliminate All the dietary causes of panic attacks. It will make a distinction to your health, waistline and ample mood. Most importantly, it could help you obtain control of your life.
